Guwahati: Guwahati development group APRINS launched a recovery initiative on August 13, 2026, to restore economic stability for flood-battered families in the Nepali Khuti settlement of Garmur Miri. The program moves past temporary relief, focusing on replacing lost assets and establishing dependable income sources for local residents.
APRINS Founder and Managing Director Chandan Borthakur led the team. They conducted surveys to identify specific equipment and job losses before distributing aid. The data collection ensured support matches individual household needs instead of relying on generic handouts.
Pradip Pradhan lost his entire livestock holding to the rising waters. He now works as a Field Coordinator for the organization, securing a stable paycheck. Five electricians, including Robi Giri, Dipok Majhi, Shivam Mirdha, Bikash Pradhan, and Nazirul Hussain, received new electrical kits and mechanical drills to restart their trade. Work stopped when the floods stole their gear. Now they have the tools to operate again.
The group also installed a new tubewell to provide the community with reliable water access. Future aid phases will continue based on the initial assessment findings. "Rehabilitation is a long process. As an Assam-based organisation, we will continue to look for avenues in the livelihood support space to help the people affected by these floods," Borthakur said.
