Guwahati: Assam Irrigation Minister Pijush Hazarika recently conducted a field inspection of the Maloibari Electrical Lift Irrigation Scheme in the Dimoria constituency. The visit, which took place shortly after he assumed his new departmental responsibilities, involved a tour of four pump stations and the surrounding canal networks.
The Maloibari project has served the region for over fifty years and remains a critical piece of agricultural infrastructure. It currently provides essential water access for approximately 1,800 hectares of land, supporting the livelihoods of nearly 5,000 local farmers. During his visit, Hazarika met with departmental staff and residents to discuss ways to modernize the system and increase its overall efficiency.
Hazarika stated his commitment to making both the Agriculture and Irrigation Departments more people-centric and responsive to public needs. The minister plans to continue these site visits across the state to identify operational challenges and implement necessary improvements firsthand. Dimoria MLA Tapan Das and senior officials from both the Agriculture and Irrigation Departments joined the minister during the inspection.
