Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya officially inaugurated the Model Village Development Programme at Jagra village in Nalbari on May 26. During the launch, he called for a collaborative approach to turn rural areas into hubs of sustainable growth and holistic development.
Acharya emphasized that the success of the initiative depends on active participation from the local community. He encouraged educated youth, farmers, women, and local leaders to work together to improve key areas such as healthcare, education, sanitation, and agriculture. Drawing on the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, the Governor noted that rural progress remains a vital component of the nation's overall strength.
To boost the rural economy, Acharya recommended combining traditional farming knowledge with modern technology and scientific methods. He also advocated for water conservation and the expansion of organic farming. The Governor pointed to digital literacy, agri-entrepreneurship, and skill development as essential tools for making these communities self-reliant.
Beyond economic development, the Governor focused on the social and environmental health of the state. He urged young people to reject substance abuse to help create a disciplined society. He also appealed for increased participation in tree plantation drives to ensure long-term environmental sustainability for the region.
