Assam Government Takes Action Against Corrupt Officials in Hajo Forest Range

Guwahati: The Assam government has launched disciplinary action against two forest officials following reports of illegal money collection and operational irregularities in the Hajo Forest Range. Environment and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced that Range Forest Officer Pranjal Barman has been transferred, while Forester Imtiaz Ahmed is now under suspension pending further investigation.

Minister Baruah stated that the government moved quickly once the allegations surfaced. He emphasized that the administration operates under a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct in public service, noting that no official is exempt from accountability regardless of their rank. The government maintains that protecting the state's natural resources requires a system free from corruption.

Addressing the state's stance on professional conduct, the minister reaffirmed that the administration will continue to prioritize integrity. Regarding the government's broader strategy, Baruah declared, "The Assam Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of forests and natural resources remains unwavering."
