Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya set up a Group of Ministers to oversee the future of the Dimasa language. The panel will study a report focused on protecting and promoting the tongue. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota issued the formal notification on September 23.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu leads the two-member team. Hill Areas Development Minister Krishnendu Paul joins him as the only other member. They must review all specific recommendations regarding the language before reporting back to the state government for final action. The state expects clear results from this review.
The Hill Areas Department will handle all secretarial work for the team. As the official notification stated, the panel will "review the recommendations made in the committee's report and examine issues concerning the Dimasa language." This directive marks the next step in the government effort to finalize its linguistic policy.

The move stems from the 2023 Memorandum of Settlement signed between the state and the Dimasa National Liberation Army and the Dimasa Peoples’ Supreme Council. This directive fulfills the requirements laid out in Clause 5.1 of that agreement, which mandated the creation of a committee to safeguard and develop the language.
