Guwahati: Assam has officially entered the international fruit market with the export of its signature Tezpur litchis to Singapore. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the shipment on June 12, marking a strategic move to establish the state's horticultural products on the global stage.

Sarma emphasized that Assam's agricultural exports, specifically ginger, lemons, and litchis, carry significant economic potential due to high international demand. Following the launch, the Chief Minister noted the state's aspirations for export-led growth in a social media update. “From ginger to lemons to litchis, Assam's agricultural products have immense potential and high demand in the global markets,” he stated.

State officials expect the expansion into Singapore will grant local growers better market access and higher visibility for their harvests. The government remains confident that the unique flavor profile of Tezpur litchis will appeal to international consumers, paving the way for future shipments of other regional crops.
