Kohima: The legal investigation regarding allegations involving Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has entered a new phase as the state's Crime Branch issued a summons to Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala. He is required to appear before the investigative body on May 23 to address matters related to the ongoing inquiry.

The controversy originated from accusations leveled by Congress leader Pawan Khera, who claimed that Ms. Sharma purportedly possesses passports from the UAE, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda. These assertions have prompted public discourse regarding Indian citizenship laws, which strictly prohibit dual citizenship. Furthermore, Khera alleged that the family maintains undisclosed properties in Dubai and holds interests in a Wyoming-based company reportedly valued at approximately Rs 53,000 crore.
