Guwahati: The Assam Congress party has yet to appoint a leader for its legislature unit, leaving the position vacant among its 19 assembly members. Senior party figure and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Gaurav Gogoi confirmed on May 23 that the delay continues while the state wing awaits guidance from central observers.
Gogoi explained that the party is holding its current position until leadership representatives arrive to provide input. He noted that this process is part of a broader internal review aimed at identifying and analyzing recent political shortcomings.
The search for a new leader remains a priority for the party as it works to restructure its legislative presence in the state. Final decisions regarding the appointment are expected only after the central observers complete their consultations with local leadership.
