Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a comprehensive review of 11 ongoing medical college and hospital projects on June 20 at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati. The meeting focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding medical education access across the state. In addition to current projects, officials examined the planning status of four proposed medical institutions that have yet to begin construction.

Sarma instructed the relevant departments to strictly adhere to established completion timelines for all developments. He emphasized that the government remains committed to providing affordable, modern medical facilities for all citizens. To ensure accountability, he directed the Director of Medical Education to conduct frequent field inspections and maintain steady oversight of all construction sites.

The discussion extended to the current status of nursing institutions, including BSc Nursing and General Nursing and Midwifery programs. The state leadership also reviewed the involvement of Project Management Consultants tasked with overseeing the infrastructure works. Addressing campus development, Sarma encouraged coordination with the Forest Department to integrate plantation activities into the facilities. He noted that such measures would support environmental conservation and improve campus conditions, stating, "Sustained oversight would help speed up the implementation of key healthcare and medical education projects in the state."

Key state officials attended the session, including MLA Taranga Gogoi, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and Additional Chief Secretary K K Dwivedi. Representatives from the Public Works Department and the Medical Education and Research Department were also present to provide project updates.
