Guwahati: The Majuli district administration and local police destroyed a massive stockpile of illegal liquor on June 11. The operation, which took place at Darbar Chapori, involved the disposal of approximately 1,500 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor that had been confiscated during enforcement drives over the past several months.

Authorities valued the destroyed goods at more than Rs 15 lakh. This action followed a formal court directive aimed at curbing the transport and sale of illicit spirits across the river island. The event took place in the presence of various police and administrative officials who gathered to oversee the disposal process.

Officials stated that the destruction reflects the administration's continued commitment to enforcing excise laws and preventing the sale and distribution of illicit alcohol. Police representatives emphasized that they will remain vigilant against those involved in the illicit trade, adding that "strict action will continue against individuals involved in the illegal liquor business in Majuli."
