Itanagar: Two major labor organizations in Arunachal Pradesh have issued an ultimatum to the state government, warning of a total shutdown of electricity and water services in the capital region. The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation and the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union have set a June 20 deadline for the release of long-overdue salaries for casual and contingency staff.
Secretary General Kenkar Yomcha stated that many government employees have gone without pay for several months, with some facing gaps of up to nine months. Despite these financial hardships, the staff members have continued working to maintain public services. Yomcha said, "Many workers under various government departments have not received salaries for two to three months, while some have been waiting for eight to nine months."
The unions previously pressed their demands through memorandums submitted on March 12 and May 11. Frustrated by the lack of response from state officials, the groups now plan to enforce a 24-hour service stoppage if the arrears are not settled. The organizations are urging the government to prioritize these payments to secure the livelihoods of thousands of workers currently struggling across the state.
