Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced a new agreement with the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti to implement the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. This reform-linked partnership aims to bolster drinking water services and secure a reliable, long-term supply for rural households across the state.
Khandu, who participated in the signing ceremony virtually alongside state Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Minister Mama Natung, noted that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of a developed India. Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil and Minister of State V. Somanna attended the event in the presence of senior government officials.
The revamped federal framework emphasizes long-term sustainability and improved service delivery through community-led management. Under the mission, the state will focus on structural reforms and institutional improvements, while encouraging local village-level committees to take an active role in maintaining water infrastructure.
Approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this year, the mission will run through December 2028 with increased financial backing. Participation in this program allows Arunachal Pradesh to access performance-based central assistance, which is expected to help provide safe tap water to remote regions and improve overall water quality monitoring.
