Arunachal Pradesh Partners With Centre to Launch JJM 2.0 for Sustainable Water Access

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has entered into a new agreement with the central government to launch the second phase of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Public Health Engineering Department Minister Mama Natung joined officials in a live ceremony to sign the memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and Minister of State V. Somanna oversaw the signing ceremony. While the initial phase of the mission focused on installing household tap connections, this updated framework shifts the priority toward long-term sustainability, consistent service delivery, and rigorous water quality assurance.

The state government aims to resolve chronic water scarcity issues in remote regions while ensuring existing infrastructure remains functional. Khandu stated that the initiative is a critical development for strengthening drinking water services throughout the state. He noted that the project will improve delivery systems and support the Prime Minister's vision of a developed India by bringing reliable water access to every home.
