Itanagar: Supporters and literary groups gathered in Pasighat on June 1 to mark the 86th birth anniversary of Lummer Dai, the celebrated novelist and journalist from Arunachal Pradesh. The Adi Agom Kebang organized the tribute event in partnership with local literary enthusiasts and representatives from the Assam Sahitya Sabha.
Attendees, including the president and adviser of the Adi Agom Kebang, paid their respects by garlanding an effigy of the late author. The ceremony featured cultural and patriotic songs in Adi and Assamese, setting a reflective tone for those gathered to honor his influence.
Speakers highlighted Dai as a foundational figure in regional literature. They noted that his work, written primarily in Assamese, successfully captured the social complexities and traditions of Northeast India. His writing continues to serve as an inspiration for new generations of readers and writers.
Over three dozen people attended the commemoration, including retired IAS officer Tagom Darang, writer Nini Pertin, and various intellectuals. The group emphasized the importance of preserving the literary heritage that Dai spent his career championing.
