APMC Mokokchung Revamps Leadership to Boost Local Agricultural Exports

Kohima: The Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee in Mokokchung has officially inducted new members as part of a strategic effort to reinvigorate local agricultural operations. During a meeting on June 9 at the APMC Complex, Chairman I Panger Longkumer stated that the inclusion of educated youth would inject fresh energy into the committee to unlock the district's agricultural potential.

Longkumer credited Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma for his role in the revival, specifically noting the formation of a three-member committee tasked with reactivating marketing initiatives. He reflected on the committee's success leading up to 2012, acknowledging that a subsequent decline in farmer participation hindered progress for over a decade.

Vice Chairman L Yanger Lemtur outlined a plan to enhance production and ensure economic returns for local producers. The committee is moving quickly to export five tonnes of locally grown Longkhum tomatoes, with administrative arrangements already in progress. Further efforts include introducing year-round marketing for chillies, bananas, and pineapples.

The committee is currently conducting surveys to develop farmer-friendly policies such as contract farming and buy-back arrangements. To support these goals, the APMC complex offers modern infrastructure, including cold storage, auction platforms, and weighbridges. Encouraging farmers to utilize these resources, the committee emphasized that its "doors are always open."
