Ao Community Issues 45-Day Ultimatum Over Nagaland School Failures

Kohima: Three major Ao community organizations issued a joint 45-day ultimatum to the Nagaland Department of School Education. The groups demand immediate fixes for failing schools in Mokokchung district. This follows an eight-month wait for action after officials received a 27-page report detailing systemic rot.

The report surveyed 196 government schools. It exposed a severe lack of teachers for Science, Math, and Languages. Existing staff are unevenly spread across the district, leaving thousands of students without proper instruction. Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang leaders signed the notice.

They demand a complete overhaul of teacher placement and new hires for core subjects. The groups insist that the department stop dragging its feet. As the statement noted, "quality education is a fundamental right of every student and stressed that the continued delay in addressing these long-standing issues has adversely affected the academic future of thousands of students in the district."

The organizations warned of public protests if the government ignores the deadline. They hold the education department accountable for any fallout. The clock is ticking.
