Imphal: The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has announced an escalation of democratic protests following the government's failure to account for six hostages abducted on May 13. The decision followed an emergency assembly held at the Ukhrul district headquarters on June 3, where members expressed frustration over the lack of progress regarding the safety and location of the victims.

The six individuals were allegedly taken by KNF(P) cadres and local villagers from Leilon Vaiphei. ANSAM demands that the state government confirm the status of the hostages and ensure their safe return to their families. To pressure authorities, the association launched a march on June 4 along National Highway 202, traveling from Ukhrul toward Imphal to meet with the affected families in Makhan village.

ANSAM leadership warned that the state government will be held responsible for any untoward incidents during these demonstrations. While the association previously discussed boycotting the state government, members decided that such a significant step requires further consultation across the Naga community. The ANSAM Executive Council has been tasked with leading these discussions and forming an action committee composed of former leaders to address the crisis.

The association reiterated its commitment to peaceful protest methods. Officials stated that these efforts will continue until justice is served and the six hostages are reunited with their loved ones.
