Imphal: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur has dismissed claims that the Leilon Vaiphei village chief bears no responsibility for the abduction of six Naga men on May 13, 2026. The Kuki-Zo Council previously told Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the chief, Lalboi Vaiphei, was absent for medical reasons and was not involved in the incident. ANSAM labeled this defense unacceptable, arguing that a village leader remains accountable for actions occurring under their jurisdiction regardless of their physical presence.
Reports indicate that six men were separated from a group of 18 civilians and taken away by vehicles. Released hostages identified approximately 30 individuals who allegedly handed the captives over to Kuki militants. ANSAM is now calling for stricter legal action against the four suspects currently in custody and is pushing for further arrests to secure the return of the missing men.
The association also addressed recent tensions regarding a separate ambush that killed three leaders of the Thadou Baptist Church Association. ANSAM stated that the Naga people had no involvement in that attack, rejecting accusations from certain Kuki groups. The association noted that Thadou apex bodies previously confirmed the ambush was the work of internal Kuki militant factions.
Criticizing the Kuki Inpi Manipur for what it called contradictory narratives, ANSAM vowed to continue its search for the missing civilians. The organization is demanding an impartial investigation to hold all responsible parties accountable and provide closure for the victims and their families.
