AMSU Protests in Nagaon Over Derogatory Social Media Remarks

Guwahati: Members of the All Assam Minority Students' Union (AMSU) gathered in Nagaon district on June 11 to hold a one-hour human chain protest. The demonstration at Singimari served as part of a broader statewide campaign organized by the student group following reports of offensive comments made about Prophet Muhammad on social media.

Protesters gathered to call for immediate legal consequences for those responsible for the posts. They urged government officials and law enforcement to take decisive steps to curb content that harms religious sentiments and potentially disrupts communal peace. The organization emphasized that local authorities must prioritize these concerns to maintain order.

AMSU leaders issued a warning regarding future demonstrations if their demands are ignored. They stated, "if the accused individuals are not arrested and brought to justice, the organisation would launch a larger mass movement across the state." The event concluded peacefully, with participants maintaining their call for accountability regarding the online remarks.
