AIR Aizawl Marks 60 Years of Broadcasting

Aizawl: All India Radio Aizawl hit 60 years of service on July 31. State officials gathered to mark the station's Diamond Jubilee. The broadcaster launched on July 31, 1966, during a period of intense regional unrest. It aimed to boost public safety and provide reliable facts. Today, the station employs more than 300 people.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma praised the broadcaster for steady performance. He noted the station avoided major disruptions over six decades. Governor Gen (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh credited radio for keeping people informed during the insurgency. He stressed the importance of the medium in remote areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s radio addresses continue to earn wide appreciation across the state.

Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga lauded the station for protecting local language and traditions. He also unveiled a commemorative plaque and released a souvenir. “AIR Aizawl has remained a source of comfort and encouragement for people facing hardship,” Sapdanga said. He noted that the station nurtures local talent and maintains a loyal audience.

AIR Director and Mizoram Cluster Head DR Lalropuia recalled the history of the station. He called the broadcaster a vital link between the government and the public. AIR Aizawl remains a fixture in Mizo life. Its mission continues as it reaches 60 years while the national network celebrates 90 years.
