Kohima: Water Resources Advisor Tongpang Ozukum toured landslide-hit areas near Chuchuyimlang on Saturday. He inspected the major break at the 181.100 km mark of National Highway 2 between Chuchuyimlang and Unger. The road is gone. Officials from the Public Works Department confirmed the site sits in a subsidence zone and cannot be repaired. They must build a new route.
Ozukum met with Village Council leaders from Chuchuyimlang and Unger to secure land for the highway diversion. The closure blocks vital supply chains. Food and goods cannot reach Mokokchung, Zunheboto, or Tuensang districts. The advisor urged the locals to cooperate so the state can restore the link quickly. "Urged the councils to extend full support and cooperation for early restoration," the official statement noted.
The advisor also traveled to the damaged road stretch connecting the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram junction to Longleng and Mon via Salulamang. He promised the Salulamang Village Council he would fix that route soon. The inspection team included SDO Changtongya Sangpangchang Longkumer, the EAC of Chuchuyimlang, and various department engineers. Party workers and local council members from the affected towns also joined the site visits.
