Imphal: Wango Lawrence Anal is the new president of the Anal Lenruwl Tangpi. He secured the top post on Tuesday at the Chamdil Town Hall in Panchai, Chandel. He beat rival Kt. Zechariah by a margin of 131 to 109 votes. St. Stelly also won her race, defeating Ts. Konia with 145 votes against 89.
About 130 youth clubs cast their ballots alongside five union branches. City chapters in Imphal, Bangalore, and Delhi held one vote each. The election ran from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Four other executive spots were filled without opposition. Wl. Jonah Ningtung takes over as general secretary, joined by Sp. Hringmingam, Callingson Wangshol, and Sr. Machangam.
Election commissioners still need to fill seats for vice president and two secretary roles. Returning officer Sr. Andria Anal led the swearing-in ceremony. Former president Rd. Kanthung provided a blessing for the incoming team.
Outgoing leader Bd. Ningwar Anal handed over the official files to start the transition for the 2026-29 term. Earlier that day, leaders released the body's new constitution. Assistant Professor Hb. Ruwnghnem noted that this document serves as a standard, stating it "should be their guiding force."
