Guwahati: The United People's Party Liberal stood behind the Cockroach Janta Party on July 21. They condemned the New Delhi police response to student protesters calling for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down. Party General Secretary Raju Kumar Narzary addressed reporters in Kokrajhar regarding the crackdown.
Officers used tear gas and lathi-charges against the crowd. Narzary called these tactics very unfortunate. He argued that authorities must handle democratic protests with restraint and open dialogue. He added, "Students are the future of the nation and tomorrow's leaders. Their peaceful protests should be handled with sensitivity and through dialogue rather than force."
Narzary pushed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene in the situation. He wants the Centre to open talks with the groups to restore order in the capital. The Union government and the Delhi Police have not yet responded to the UPPL statement. The CJP continues to demand Pradhan resign over ongoing education sector grievances.
