Guwahati: The United People’s Party Liberal staged a two-hour protest on August 31. It hit all five district headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Region. Workers gathered in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, and Udalguri to slam the BPF-led government. They claim the region is spiraling downward.
The party cited 11 months of mismanagement. They pointed to over 23 specific incidents, including bomb blasts, killings, and body recoveries. Demonstrators demanded better protection for citizen property and lives. At the Kokrajhar HS & MP School, leaders gathered at 1 pm to voice their anger.
Protesters targeted what they labeled a Syndicate Raj. They specifically pointed to illegal tax collection at the Srirampur Inter-State Check Gate. Party officials want these rackets dismantled immediately. They also demanded the state government ensure the regular, uninterrupted flow of Orunodoi welfare benefits to the poor.
UPPL workers want more marginalized women included in the existing aid scheme. The party is now finalizing a formal memorandum for the Chief Minister of Assam. They plan to hand the document to District Commissioners at every protest site. One party representative stated, "UPPL urged the state government to take immediate and appropriate action on the issues raised, particularly those concerning law and order, illegal collections and welfare delivery across the BTR."
