Imphal: The United Naga Council has formally notified Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh that families will not accept the bodies of six recently recovered Naga hostages. The apex civil body is conditioning the release of the remains on specific government actions against the Kuki National Front-President Group, which is accused of the abduction and murder of 18 civilians from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13.

The council is calling for an immediate end to the Suspension of Operations agreement with all Kuki militant groups. Furthermore, the organization wants the KNF-P designated as a terrorist entity. In their petition, the UNC asserted that "the families of the victims, along with the UNC, would not accept the mortal remains until their demands are addressed and concrete action is taken by the authorities."

Demands include the arrest and prosecution of KNF-P members, including those linked to the death of Wilson Thanga Chiru. The council identified several individuals allegedly involved in the crimes, including village chief Lalboi Vaiphei and serving police officer Thanggilian Vaiphei. Additionally, the group is pushing for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, citing concerns over her marital connection to KNF-P president Semtinthang Kipgen.

The UNC maintains that these steps are essential to restore public trust and demonstrate a commitment to justice. They have requested that state and central authorities initiate these measures immediately to address the grievances of the affected communities.
