Shillong: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has named Meghalaya a national model for eliminating bureaucratic red tape. During the North-East India Infrastructure Summit, the Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways revealed that the state currently holds the third rank in the country for its efforts to deregulate the business environment.
This achievement follows the successful completion of 23 priority reforms designed to simplify compliance for entrepreneurs. These policy changes have effectively attracted new investments across diverse sectors, including renewable energy, logistics, agriculture, and information technology.
Sonowal emphasized that the region is undergoing a significant economic shift driven by better digital infrastructure and connectivity. He highlighted the growth of transport investments and popular events like the Cherry Blossom Festival as clear indicators of the state's rising economic influence.
The Minister also commended the partnership between the central government and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. "Meghalaya today exemplifies how policy reforms and targeted investments can unlock economic opportunities while preserving the region’s unique cultural and environmental heritage," Sonowal said.
