Kohima: On May 11, 2026, an active member of the banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) formally surrendered to the Assam Rifles and supporting security agencies in Nagaland. During the operation, security personnel recovered a single smartphone from the individual.

Officials stated that this surrender was the result of persistent outreach initiatives and coordinated efforts designed to encourage militants to abandon insurgency and rejoin the mainstream. The security forces remain dedicated to fostering peace and stability throughout the region by providing clear pathways for misguided youth to integrate back into society.
