Imphal: Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah has formally requested Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh intervene in the worsening security situation in Ukhrul district. The appeal follows a violent ambush today near TM Kasom where suspected Kuki militants attacked a convoy of essential supply trucks despite the presence of security escorts. The incident resulted in the death of a Food Corporation of India truck driver and left two other individuals wounded.
Muivah cited this latest tragedy as evidence of a deteriorating environment, pointing to the April 18 killing of two Tangkhul civilians at the same location. He noted that ongoing blockades and militant activity have prevented critical supplies like rice, fuel, and LPG cylinders from reaching the district from Imphal for nearly a month.
To bypass the current danger zones, the MLA proposed shifting the transport of essential goods to National Highway 102A. He noted that this route from Dimapur to Ukhrul via Tadubi remains safer because it lacks Kuki village settlements along the road.
The MLA has presented a five-point plan to the state government. He is calling for an immediate shift to the Tadubi route and a significant security upgrade for existing transport lines. His specific requests include deploying three bulletproof vehicles to escort supply convoys and ordering security forces to dismantle militant bunkers along the western bank of the Thoubal River. Additionally, Muivah urged officials to launch search operations to capture the perpetrators and to station a platoon of state forces at the vulnerable TM Kasom site.
