Tynsong blasts VPP for undermining Khasi traditional institutions

Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong slammed the Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Sunday. He claims the party is dismantling traditional leadership within the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council. Tynsong spoke at an election rally in Wahlyngkhat. He was there to support National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Dr. D.R.L. Nonglait for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-poll.

Tynsong challenged the VPP on its record. He questioned the specific reforms the party claims to have delivered since taking control of the council. He specifically attacked the VPP-led executive committee for introducing policies that strip power from local bodies. The stakes are high. Tynsong warned of serious social consequences if the administration ignores village-level authority.

"If you completely remove the provision that requires consultation with Village Dorbars, Dorbar Raids, or Dorbar Himas, then what is left?" he asked the crowd. He maintained that clan, religious, and social institutions remain the bedrock of community guidance. The Deputy Chief Minister also blasted the use of social media to spread misinformation. He claimed manufactured narratives manipulated the results of the last two elections.

He urged Pynursla residents to back Dr. Nonglait. A win for the NPP would improve governance and delivery across the region. A massive crowd from across Pynursla packed the event. Other leaders in attendance included Sohra MLA Kevin Mylliem, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar, and Nongshken MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri.
