Agartala: Two men died and a third remains in critical condition following a landslide in the Chakmaghat Muslim Slum area of Khowai district on Saturday morning. The three victims, identified as James Jamatia, 20, Asha Hari Jamatia, 30, and Amulya Dhan Jamatia, 30, were collecting soil for home construction when the incident occurred around 7:00 a.m.

As the group worked on the hillock, the terrain gave way, trapping all three men under a massive mound of earth. Local residents discovered the accident and began digging before authorities arrived. First responders from the Fire and Emergency Services, alongside personnel from the TSR 12th Battalion, assisted in the rescue operation.

Police stated, "After an extensive search, James Jamatia and Asha Hari Jamatia were pulled out from beneath the debris and rushed to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, the attending doctor declared both of them dead on arrival." Amulya Dhan Jamatia was recovered alive but sustained severe leg injuries. He received initial treatment at Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital before being transferred to GB Hospital in Agartala for further care. The bodies of the deceased were moved to a morgue for post-mortem examinations.
