Kohima: Health workers and students gathered at District Hospital Tuensang to mark World Zoonoses Day. The July 6 event honors the anniversary of Louis Pasteur giving the first rabies vaccine in 1885. Over 70 people attended the meeting at the School of Nursing.
The program operated under the theme, "Working Together: Preventing Zoonoses through Community Action." NOHP PCZ and the Sentinel Surveillance Site organized the event. Dr. Tochi Chang opened the floor by explaining why the hospital observes the day and how the project functions locally.
Dr. Mohan Sharma led a talk on how everyday citizens can stop diseases from spreading between animals and humans. Interns from Tinsukia College joined the conversation. They educated attendees on specific health risks like Japanese encephalitis, leptospirosis, and scrub typhus.
Nursing students engaged in an interactive session to sharpen their skills. The event wrapped up with a final word of thanks from BSL 2 technician Dekhingridi Sangtam. The hospital aims to keep the community alert to prevent future outbreaks.
