Agartala: A court in Tripura's Dhalai district sentenced 26-year-old Jhuma Marar to life imprisonment on Friday for the murder of her husband, Mohan Marar. The Additional District Judge at Kamalpur convicted the woman under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, ordering her to serve rigorous life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two months of simple imprisonment.

The investigation began after the victim's father, Mahesh Marar, filed a complaint on May 28, 2023. He discovered his 27-year-old son dead on a bed at their residence in Chulubari. He noted, "a blackish mark was visible on the victim's neck and suspected that his daughter-in-law had strangled him to death."

Kamalpur Police registered a case following the report and launched an investigation. Sub-Inspector Debabrata Datta submitted a formal charge sheet on November 30, 2023. After reviewing evidence and hearing arguments throughout the trial, the court delivered its final verdict on June 19, 2026.
