Agartala: Tripura saw a 3.15 percent jump in total tourist arrivals during the 2025-26 financial year. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury shared the data Thursday during the first day of the legislative assembly monsoon session. He spoke in response to questions from MLAs Antara Sarkar Deb and Tofajjal Hossain.
Total arrivals hit 7,29,414 for the year. Domestic travelers accounted for 7,10,243 of that count. Foreign visitors totaled 19,171. The minister noted a shift in the data. "The figures indicate continued growth in domestic tourism in the state, although the number of foreign tourists declined during 2025-26 compared to the previous financial year," said Chowdhury.
The state recorded 7,07,173 total visitors in 2024-25, including 6,27,705 domestic and 79,468 foreign guests. Back in 2023-24, the state hosted 5,45,299 people, with 4,69,328 domestic and 75,971 international travelers.
Officials are betting on new construction. The state built 12 small and medium tourism projects. Five major developments worth Rs 400 crore remain in progress. These sites include the 51 Shakti Peetha Park in Udaipur, Chabimura, Narkelkunja, Unakoti, and Jirania Park.
Minister Chowdhury clarified the status of these assets while answering MLA Ranjit Debbarma. Four of the smaller projects exist within the TTAADC area. He confirmed the government holds no plans to transfer control of these state-developed tourism projects to the TTAADC.

Chowdhury specifically named the project at Unakoti as Sonamukhi and identified the Shakti Peetha Park site as Banduar in Udaipur. He said the state government is pushing to market Tripura as a top-tier destination by leaning on its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical landmarks to draw in travelers.

Chowdhury broke down the costs for the 12 small and medium infrastructure projects completed over the last three years. The state poured Rs 87 crore, 87 lakh, and 42 thousand into these sites to boost visitor numbers.
The minister emphasized that the state government views tourism as a primary engine for local economic growth, job creation, and broader infrastructure expansion.
