Agartala: The Tripura Education Department has significantly expanded its commitment to early childhood development by launching 450 new pre-primary sections in government schools for the 2026-27 academic session. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which identifies foundational learning as a critical pillar for a developed nation. Officials emphasized that the period between ages three and six is vital, as most brain development occurs during this window.

To support this expansion, the Directorate of Elementary Education recently concluded a five-day training workshop in West Tripura for 100 teachers from 94 newly established schools. The curriculum focused on play-based learning, classroom engagement techniques, and the effective use of low-cost teaching materials. Participants showcased their efforts through an exhibition featuring handmade puppets and classroom aids. Beyond training, the state has provided educators with standardized lesson plans, handbooks, and workbooks to ensure consistent quality.

Education Secretary Milind Dharmarao Ramteke highlighted that student success hinges on teachers building a secure and trusting classroom environment. Joint Director Harshita Biswas noted a 24 to 25 percent increase in enrollment compared to the previous year, signaling strong public confidence in government initiatives. OSD Abhijit Samajpati reiterated that the program aims to provide equitable access to early education for children of all socio-economic backgrounds. Following this successful pilot, the department plans to roll out similar training programs across all districts to further strengthen classroom delivery throughout the state.
