Agartala: The Tripura government is moving all state employees to a five-day work week. This decision, approved by the cabinet, ends the previous rotational work-from-home arrangement that applied to half of the Group C and Group D workforce.
Under the new policy, offices will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Employees are now expected to work from 9.30 am to 6 pm. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury confirmed that these changes take effect immediately, replacing the temporary fuel-saving measures that previously altered office schedules.
Alongside the return to a standard office week, the state has adopted new austerity measures to manage government spending during the conflict in West Asia. Departments are now encouraged to hold 75 per cent of their meetings in a hybrid format to save on fuel. Officials have also been instructed to prioritize the use of electric vehicles and cut down on transportation expenses.
Minister Chowdhury noted that these fiscal steps do not indicate a resource crisis. He confirmed that the state holds sufficient supplies of food and fuel, with the Food and Civil Supplies Department continuing to monitor availability to ensure residents face no shortages.
