Agartala: Tripura has achieved a major milestone in public health as its Infant Mortality Rate has dropped to 12. This figure, reported in the 2024 Sample Registration System Bulletin released this May, places the state well below the national average.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha credited this improvement to long-term government efforts to upgrade medical infrastructure. Key initiatives included the expansion of immunization programs and the strengthening of Special Newborn Care Units and Newborn Stabilisation Units across the state. These changes helped facilitate better institutional deliveries and more effective community healthcare outreach.

Medical professionals view the lower mortality rate as a strong indicator of high-quality neonatal care and increased access to health services for mothers. Dr. Saha emphasized that these results validate current healthcare policies and the administration’s ongoing commitment to medical progress. He also credited the central government, specifically Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, for their consistent support of the state health sector.
