Agartala: Tripura experienced a notable decline in overall crime throughout 2024, according to the latest figures from the National Crime Records Bureau. The state recorded 4,033 cases under various penal codes, marking a clear decrease from the 5,002 cases reported in 2023 and the 4,532 cases logged in 2022. Alongside this drop, authorities improved the charge-sheeting rate to 79.7 percent, reflecting more effective investigative efforts.

Kidnapping and abduction cases saw one of the most substantial improvements, falling to 50 in 2024 after reaching 132 the previous year. Data also revealed a downward trend in crimes against women, which decreased from 752 cases in 2022 to 716 in 2024. Furthermore, reported crimes against senior citizens dropped significantly, falling to just five cases over the same period. Notably, the state recorded zero cases of atrocities against members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for the second consecutive year.

While many categories showed improvement, some figures remained mixed. Murder cases rose to 116 in 2024, up from 101 the prior year. Economic offences saw a marginal increase, totaling 201 cases, while crimes against the state reached 22. Despite these fluctuations, the report suggests a general strengthening of the law and order environment within the state.
