Tripura Police Launch Probe After Viral Cash Display Video

Agartala: Authorities in Tripura have launched a formal investigation following the emergence of a viral video that depicted a significant amount of Indian currency being displayed. The footage, which circulated widely across social media platforms, prompted immediate intervention from senior police officials in the Dhalai district.

As a result of the incident, constable Pijush Debbarma, who was posted at the Salema Police Station, has been suspended. In addition to his suspension, police have detained six individuals for questioning. Those in custody include constable Pijush Debbarma, his wife Nandu Rani Debbarma, and four other people identified as Ajit Debbarma, Menaka Debbarma, Rajesree Debbarma, and Sanjana Debbarma.

Inspector General of Police for Law and Order, Ipper Manchak Dnyonba, confirmed that a case has been registered and a thorough inquiry is underway. Investigators are currently working to verify the authenticity of the currency shown in the clip and to determine the origin of the funds. The department is also reviewing the circumstances under which the video was recorded and shared online to identify potential financial irregularities or misconduct within the force.
