Agartala: Tripura Police have detained three individuals, including a minor, suspected of participating in an organized cattle theft network in the South Tripura district. The suspects, Sabuj Mia and Imran Hossain, were apprehended alongside the minor following a police raid in Melaghar. Officials tracked the group using mobile phone records and presented them before a court on May 21 to request further remand.

South Tripura Superintendent of Police Mourya Krishna C indicated that the arrests are only the beginning of a broader effort to dismantle a gang estimated to include up to 25 members. Police are conducting ongoing searches and raids across multiple locations to locate other suspects involved in the regional operation.

These arrests follow a period of public unrest in the Belonia subdivision, where residents have staged protests and road blockades due to a sharp rise in livestock thefts. Local records show that approximately 52 cases have been filed since April. In response to the growing community pressure, authorities have increased surveillance and are actively examining potential links between the detained individuals and the wider criminal network.

Law enforcement officials are encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or illegal cattle transportation to the police. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
