Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced the implementation of 193 new flood control projects aimed at curbing river erosion and strengthening water resource management throughout the state. During the inauguration of a new State Data Center at the Visvesvaraya Complex in Agartala, Saha emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader government strategy to integrate modern technology into sustainable development.

The newly established State Data Center, developed under the National Hydrology Project launched in 2016-17, is expected to play a critical role in these efforts. The facility will facilitate real-time monitoring of river flows, groundwater levels, and potential flood situations. The project has seen an initial investment of 4.67 crore rupees, with an additional 4.50 crore rupees allocated for the second phase to ensure long-term administrative and technical efficiency.

Addressing the state's irrigation goals, the Chief Minister noted that 1,23,754 hectares of agricultural land were covered by irrigation as of March 2026. The government now plans to expand this coverage by an additional 10,401 hectares. Furthermore, 34 minor irrigation storage and harvesting structures are being built at a cost of 972 crore rupees, which will eventually provide irrigation to another 6,137 hectares of land.

In terms of infrastructure, 42 dams stretching across 152 kilometers have already been completed. Authorities are placing special emphasis on vulnerable zones, particularly in the Gomati district and Agartala. This technological push is part of the state government's commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of technology-driven governance, which also includes the deployment of a three-tier e-office system to streamline state administration.
