Agartala: Senior IPS officer Rajiv Singh has been appointed as the Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat under the Government of India. The official order for this assignment was released on May 21, 2026. Singh is currently serving as the Director General of Police for Manipur and will transition to this sensitive national role shortly.
As Secretary (Security), Singh will manage critical national safety matters. His responsibilities include coordinating for the Special Protection Group, which handles the security of the Prime Minister and their immediate family. This appointment follows his tenure as Manipur DGP, a position he accepted in 2023 during a period of significant ethnic unrest.
Singh is a 1993-batch IPS officer belonging to the Tripura cadre. His background includes high-level roles within central security organizations like the Central Reserve Police Force. Throughout his career, he has gained a reputation for his expertise in counter-insurgency operations and law enforcement, particularly across the Northeast.
The move has been met with praise in Tripura, where officials view his elevation as a significant milestone for the state police force. Observers note that his appointment highlights the growing influence of officers from the Northeast in the country's national security framework. The order was finalized by Manisha Saxena, who serves as the Secretary of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
