Agartala: Tripura officials just bumped the monthly pension for veteran reporters from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000. This marks a massive shift for the state’s media workers. The government updated the Tripura Journalist Honour Pension Scheme guidelines in 2025 to make the cash easier to grab.
The state also runs the Tripura Journalist Family Security Pension Scheme. It hands out Rs 5,000 every month to the families of deceased journalists. Officials recently cleared five more retired reporters for the honor pension, bringing the total count of recipients to 13. Two additional families joined the security scheme, pushing that total to seven.
The government tapped the Journalist Welfare Fund to cover medical costs for four more reporters. According to state officials, these initiatives represent "continued efforts to enhance the welfare, financial security and social protection of journalists and their families in Tripura." They plan to keep the funding flowing.
