Tripura Government Retains Netaji Name on Homeopathic College

Agartala: Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte ended a political firestorm on Saturday. He confirmed the state retained the name of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for its newly upgraded homeopathic medical institution. Officials are installing new signboards to clear up confusion regarding the official title. The site at Sadhutila Renters Colony is now known as the Agartala Government Homeopathic Medical College and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Homeopathic Hospital.

The clarification follows intense pressure from the All India Forward Bloc and CPI(M). Both parties accused the government of erasing the legacy of a national hero. Forward Bloc members filed a formal protest with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to demand the name be saved. CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury called the earlier move historically unjustified.

Gitte defended the naming structure by citing existing institutions like the Agartala Government Medical College and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital. He insisted the government remains committed to honoring the freedom fighter. "The naming pattern ensures clarity while preserving the hospital's historic identity. There is no question of removing Netaji's name," Gitte said. The state government expects these updates to settle the dispute once the signs go up.
