Agartala: The Tripura Cabinet has mandated a five-day work week for all state government offices, effective immediately. Under the new policy, offices will remain closed on both Saturdays and Sundays, while daily operating hours are set from 9:30 am to 6 pm. This replaces the previous schedule, which included holidays only on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month and maintained hours from 10 am to 5 pm.

Alongside the schedule change, the government has officially ended the work-from-home policy for Group C and Group D employees. Previously, half of these staff members worked remotely on a rotating basis to support fuel conservation efforts following an appeal from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury confirmed the cabinet decided to revoke this arrangement after a thorough review of current operations.

Officials are also implementing new austerity measures in response to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. To curb fuel consumption, department heads have been ordered to reduce vehicle expenditure, and the state will not pursue the hiring of electric vehicles for official use. Additionally, the government has transitioned toward digital efficiency by requiring that 75 percent of all official meetings be conducted in a hybrid format.
