Agartala: The Tripura government is prioritizing the economic empowerment of tribal communities and rural women through the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project. Minister Sudhangshu Das unveiled a new department logo while hosting a workshop in Agartala to discuss the project, which aims to improve both livelihood opportunities and local service delivery systems.
Launched two years ago with World Bank support, the initiative operates under an 80:20 funding model. The project has received over 1,200 crore rupees from the World Bank and 200 crore rupees from the state government. These funds support Producer Groups, which consist of 20 to 30 women from self-help groups trained in poultry, piggery, and other agricultural activities. These groups receive guidance from trained professionals known as Pashu Sakhis and Matsya Sakhis, with financial assistance provided through the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission.
To address rising local demand for meat, milk, and eggs, the training sessions focus on product branding, processing, and marketing to increase household income. During the event, the minister also launched the Bharat Sanjivani mobile application to help rural residents access veterinary services more efficiently. These efforts are part of a broader state agenda that includes additional welfare programs for tea workers to ensure economic stability for marginalized groups across Tripura.
