Agartala: A Khowai district court in Tripura has issued summons to several high-profile Trinamool Congress leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee, Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen, and party leader Kunal Ghosh. The summons relates to a 2021 case filed during the party's political campaign in the state.

Public Prosecutor Abhijit Bhattacharjee stated that the case originated after 14 TMC workers were arrested and brought to the Khowai Police Station. Authorities allege that party supporters engaged in misconduct toward police officers and attempted to damage station property during the incident. The Chief Judicial Magistrate took cognisance of the matter after reviewing official case records.

While former West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu successfully challenged his involvement in the case before the High Court and was discharged, the court directed the remaining individuals to appear in person on June 22. Addressing the ongoing legal process, the prosecutor noted, "The remaining accused persons will face legal proceedings in accordance with law."

These legal developments trace back to the period when the Trinamool Congress was actively working to expand its influence in Tripura ahead of regional elections. Neither the accused leaders nor the party organization have issued a formal response to the recent court order.
