Agartala: The Tripura government has cancelled the 26-day summer vacation for all state-run colleges, including technical and professional institutions. Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma issued the official notification on Friday, confirming that schools will remain open despite the break previously scheduled to begin on May 26.

Authorities stated the decision was made in the interest of students to ensure continuity in academic and administrative tasks. The institutions will use this time to conduct even semester examinations and manage the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session.

Officials pointed to the implementation of the National Education Policy and the shift to a semester-based academic system as primary reasons for the change. These updates have left little room for an extended summer hiatus across the state's 22 general degree colleges and various professional institutions.

To compensate for the loss of the holiday, the government announced that faculty and staff members who work during this period will receive 26 days of Earned Leave.
