Agartala: Tripura has allocated Rs 24 crore to the Animal Resources Development Department to fund various initiatives aimed at bolstering the state's livestock sector. Minister Sudhangshu Das announced the funding on May 21 during a workshop focused on the distribution of Pashu Sakhi kits. The investment supports a broader effort to revitalize the rural economy, which relies heavily on agriculture and animal husbandry.
A significant portion of the region's development strategy centers on the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project. This multi-sectoral initiative carries a total budget of Rs 1,400 crore, with the World Bank providing Rs 1,200 crore and the state government covering the balance. Running through 2029, the project focuses on training, vaccination programs, animal feed support, and the construction of facilities for poultry, piggery, and cattle rearing.
The government intends to coordinate these efforts with the Tribal Welfare Department and the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission. To improve project execution, the department signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited. Minister Das noted that the state currently operates 13 mobile veterinary units, with plans to expand this fleet. Residents seeking assistance or resources can contact the department through a dedicated toll-free helpline at 1962.
