Imphal: The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has formally requested the cancellation of a nationwide rally planned by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) for May 30. The organization argues that the recent killings of three church leaders should not be used to promote a political agenda.

TIM expressed strong disapproval of KIM labeling the victims as Kuki-Zo church leaders. According to the organization, the three men were Thadou pastors affiliated with the Thadou Baptist Association India. TIM emphasized that the Thadou people maintain a distinct ethnic and cultural identity, and they reject efforts to group their community under the Kuki or Kuki-Zo umbrella without their consent.

The group insists that the legacy of the deceased must be respected rather than subjected to identity distortion or political gain. They urged all community members, including churches and youth groups, to abstain from participating in events that misrepresent these individuals.

The Government of Manipur has referred the investigation into the deaths to the National Investigation Agency. TIM appealed for stakeholders to respect the legal process and avoid any actions that might influence public opinion or foster communal tension. They further criticized the use of annual observances like Kuki Black Day, alleging that such events often promote narratives that undermine Thadou identity.

Highlighting the need for peace, TIM called on civil society groups and leaders to exercise restraint. The organization urged a move away from inflammatory rhetoric, calling for wisdom and maturity to help restore trust between communities during this difficult period.
