Imphal: The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has issued an urgent appeal for peace following a wave of violent incidents that swept through the state between May 29 and June 11. The organization expressed deep concern over the recurring attacks that have destabilized the region, resulted in significant loss of life, and destroyed property across multiple districts.
TIM condemned a wide range of hostile acts including arson, targeted killings, and abductions. The group noted several specific tragedies, such as the ambush of truck driver Nitish Kumar and the deaths of multiple civilians in Kangpokpi and Tamenglong districts. "These attacks have claimed innocent lives, destroyed homes and places of worship, displaced families, and severely eroded inter-community trust," the organization stated.
Despite the ongoing tension, the group praised recent humanitarian efforts that led to the June 9 release of 14 detainees in Senapati district. This success was attributed to the cooperation of the United Naga Council, local religious and community leaders, and government authorities. TIM highlighted this event as a model for the constructive dialogue necessary to address the broader crisis.
Looking ahead, the Thadou Inpi has demanded that state and central governments launch swift, impartial investigations to hold perpetrators accountable. The organization also urged all community members to move away from hate speech and divisive propaganda, advocating instead for reconciliation and long-term stability.
